Homemade Granola

Making your own granola is really easy.  Homemade granola tastes much better than store bought factory made granola....you won't be disappointed.

Start with about five cups of old fashioned oats.  Add about  1/2 to 3/4 cup of maple syrup or honey and about the same amount of oil....coconut oil melted works great.  Mix the wet ingredients.  You can add some cinnamon, vanilla and salt.  Sometimes I add flax seeds, hazel nut meal or wheat germ.  Make it your own!

To the oats I add some nuts, can be cashews, almonds, pecans or pumpkin seeds and coconut flakes.  I use about a cup of each(coconut and a variety of nut).  Mix the wet ingredients with the dry.

Then it is baked for about 20 minutes at 350- stirring once at about the ten minute mark.  I you want chunks of granola, let it cool completely before taking it off the cookie sheet.  Some people use parchment paper to bake it on.  Sometimes I do and I don't see much of a difference.

After the baking step you add dried fruit.  Any dried fruit works.  In this batch I used golden raisens.
